How to: Wear the Jogger
“What the heck…?” or “Man, those are kind of cool, wonder if I could pull those off?”
One of the two thoughts that might pop up in your mind when you think Jogger. We’re here to address both of those questions and help you understand what a Jogger is, and most importantly, how you can wear them.
-A Brief History-
The Jogger has a direct lineage from athletic wear, more specifically – sweatpants. Now, before you close your browser window, hear us out. The original Jogger pant is rooted in aesthetics from sneaker culture (those who like to show off fashion sneakers), bunching up the bottom of their pant leg or sweatpants to show off their kicks. From that led to the skateboard crew, needing a functional and roomier pant to show off their tricks without bagginess of sweatpants that could lead to accidents or the constrictive option of skinny jeans. And here we are – The evolution of the Jogger in today’s form, from a workout pant to an elevated streetwear style, is all about tailoring and exquisite fabrics.
Men’s fashion trends today support a more tailored and slimmer look. And now paired with the pursuit to always be comfortable, a la athleisure, in comes the Jogger. A comfortable, easy-to-wear slimmer leg pant style, Joggers recently gained even more attention when Rickie Fowler teed off on the PGA tour in a pair of Joggers earlier this year, setting the golf world scrambling. There’s no denying it, the Jogger is prevalent these days. And now J.Hilburn is taking it up a notch, offering the Jogger style in a Made-To-Measure pant in the softest flannels and cottons. By combining these fabrics with the Jogger style, we’ve created a sophisticated, on-trend pant style that let’s you have more versatility in wear than just to the gym (or golf course).
The beauty of having a Made-To-Measure pant is not only having a pant that fits you properly, but also in a style that you prefer. There’s an occasion for every type of trouser construction and style. The Jogger style is inherently casual, but that doesn’t mean they’re only for the weekend. Depending on the fabric and how you coordinate with other pieces, a Made-To-Measure Jogger could be a welcome addition to your wardrobe.
-How to Wear-
Cotton Drill – The Stand-by
The most traditional fabric (did we just say traditional when talking about Joggers?) for a casual pant style is Cotton Drill. This fabric makes a great Jogger style pant that you can wear with anything from a crewneck tee to a Soft Washed OCBD. It’s updated casual wear for Off-Duty occasions like watching the big game or running errands with the family.
Flannel – The Up and Comer
Choose a solid or heather herringbone for the Jogger and then add a Deconstructed Jacket in the same fabric. Pair with our Melange Crewneck (a super soft cotton/cashmere blend lightweight sweater) and a dressed-up sneaker, then you’ll have a refined, casual look. Comfortable, sophisticated, and great for your next date night.
Performance Wool – The Travel Companion
Our Performance Tailoring fabrics from Vitale Barberis Canonico already make a great travel jacket or trouser. Try combining those qualities with an updated style like the Jogger and you have an instant new travel companion. Pair with a Non-Iron Custom Shirt which will keep you looking neat and fresh post-flight. The Jogger trouser adds ease of wear and a casual, yet sophisticated look to your airport attire. And, not to mention, you’ll still be the best dressed guy on the flight.
