The Turtleneck, sometimes referred to as the roll-neck, is a truly iconic style that has long been a go-to for global celebrity style and fashion folk, who appreciate the covered-up neck as a dress-down statement. The high collar feature of the Turtleneck (T-Neck for short) for good reason, has long been a portrait photographer favorite, as it frames the sitter’s face isolating the head almost from the rest of the body, focusing on the features and structure of the face.
Being able to offer this iconic style as part of our custom-made lineup is something I consider somewhat of an achievement as the construction is usually reserved exclusively to the sweater category. Our wonderful soft knit materials in wools and cottons have allowed us to create an over-the-head style with ample neck opening but enough return of the high neck roll to cover the neck softly when pulled on.
I consider the T-Neck a sort of cold-weather T-shirt and I have many fashion friends who, the moment the cold weather hits, don the T-Neck as a winter layer under a sportcoat or suit. It is stylish beyond seasons and considered a truly iconic piece that continues to be more widely worn year after year, no longer considered just a symbol of high style but as a practical alternative to scarves and layers.
I love how it is looking fresh in our latest looks and adds another great option to choose from in our knit assortment, to be worn under a sportcoat or windstopper, with a touch of aristocratic air. I am particularly loving the T-Neck in black, of course, and worn in more festive outfits, swapping out a traditional shirt and tie with this less traditional style choice for evening dinners, drinks and parties. Coupled under a velvet jacket and worn with a black 5-pocket, I find it the epitome of chic and reminiscent of smoky nightclubs and sexy cocktail bars.
The evening looks are refreshed by the T-Neck adding a cool, in-the-know style to replace traditional shirt, but could be risqué as a true alternative to black tie.
