The new Spring/Summer 2022 Collection we launched yesterday is inspired by optimism, with a fresh energy that looks forward to sunny days, happy times and an enjoyment of life itself. I started with the idea of sports and clubs to name the various themes in the collection, and to capture the spirit of sporty, outdoor activities—think team spirit, gamesmanship and a clean approach to color and color combinations. The optimistic outlook is very clear in this season’s color point of view, using a graphic play of bright tones off of navy, white and naturals. As always, I carefully selected this new palette for J.Hilburn with an eye to wearability and our Clients’ needs.
Tennis, golf, yachting, swimming and of course clubhouse style provided both direct and indirect inspirations as I created this colorful collection across categories, especially in our casual offerings. A sense of exclusivity of membership—without being snobbish—inspires effortless styling somewhere between tailoring and casual, defining the current mood in menswear.
Modernity is interwoven throughout the collection in the fabric selections, styling options and color choices, all inspired by combining the technical advantage of a competitive edge with the sportsmanship and decorum required for any good race or game.
Sporty styling inspired new polo ideas, particularly in the printed and striped polos that use tech fabrications from Ratti and Canclini. We’ve also introduced a new tech strip and a fun print program from our own research. Contrast collars and plackets add to the list of options for polos, as does a new double stripe arm detail for knits that gives a nod to soccer and workout gear. Other highlights include new colors in shirting and knits, new button colors for additional interest, and of course color updates across your favorite J.Hilburn pant styles in 4-way stretch and performance fabrics.
In suiting, this season takes a 2-pronged approach with clubhouse blazers that combine classic sportcoat styles—classic lines and tailored smartness—while also branching out with a few swatches of decidedly bolder character. The alternative suiting options feature more subtle tones, with hints of lavenders, greens and pinks that play up design details in the cloth, and perfectly pick up the new accent colors in our print and patterned shirting.
