The end of winter can’t come quickly enough, and as we begin to finally see the first signs of spring, there is a short window to still enjoy outerwear and the stylish layered combinations these brisk but transitional days allow. I’m referring to the days when it is warm enough to forgo a heavy jacket or overcoat, but cool enough to comfortably wear a vest or some variation of a jacket to keep the morning chill at bay. As part of my performance series, I want to focus on our tech poly fabric. Before you put away the outerwear for the season and begin to enjoy unlined suits and linen shirts, here are a few ways to style your J.Hilburn custom wardrobe with selections from our performance outerwear collection.
I always strive to build a range of outerwear that can address a sudden breezy day or unexpected rain, both of which can be really annoying when you’re on the go and caught off guard without the right piece on hand.
Our tech poly fabric is really quite lightweight, and in spring I like to double it up and use the fabric as both the external-facing cloth and as the full lining. This gives a double layer of protection and a little more warmth than a spring version (which we typically offer as an unlined, single-layer version). This two-layer construction adds more protection from cool wind by creating an air pocket between the layers, which can keep you warm on a 50- to 60-degree day, depending on your preference. We applied this double-layer construction to our Field Jacket, which I spoke about earlier this year. I love this rugged classic piece with just the right amount of authentic coolness married to a great practical jacket with all those pockets. The Hybrid Blazer in tech poly is also offered in a fully lined option, and this piece has many of the same features as the Field Jacket but with cleaner, more modern styling. It’s a great replacement for a blazer look without a structured shoulder or chest.
Our tech poly fabric is also used in our vests and our Quilted Blazer, and in these styles we add a layer of ultralight wadding that fills out the air pocket between the outer and inner layers to create the type of thermal insulation as a comforter or duvet does on a warm and cozy bed. The same is true of any “filled” outerwear garment that combines lightweight fabric with an insulated construction to capture and retain body heat, making it a perfect option for late fall in cooler zones that see 40-degree days. New for Spring 2022 is the tech poly fabric in our Shirt Jacket style—launched successfully last fall—which is a new option when you need a great piece to bridge the transition between seasons.
By layering items from your wardrobe and topping off the look with one of these transitional outerwear pieces, you’ll stay warm while also looking stylish and up to date in something new from the Spring 2022 collection. Or better yet, treat yourself to a new color in your favorite outerwear staple, or even try a new outerwear style.
Layers are important in your daily looks because they’re easy to add and remove as the weather unfolds, so ask your Stylist how you can look great, whatever these unpredictable spring days bring. Your Stylist can show you different ways to build upon your existing wardrobe by adding on a few smart Spring pieces, tailored to your lifestyle and preferences. Here’s to enjoying the end-of-winter transition, even as we look forward to the advent of warmer weather.
