Part of A Happy Life

On the eve of our lapsed Client event, which will take place over the next few weeks, I feel a sense of optimism and opportunity. Reminding clients who already know us about what we offer from a product and service should be pretty effortless and somewhat fun, considering how our product updates each season with newness across the 11+ categories in our catalog. He may have got caught up in other things, but good clothes in a curated wardrobe of looks are something he can always turn to, enabling his everyday confidence.

I often find myself in part of normal conversations in social settings being asked about my profession, to which I often reply rather minimally: Fashion Designer. I have found over the years that this always kicks off an interesting start to questions about what I actually do and have done for the majority of my life. I find that introducing myself as a Chief Creative Officer, Creative Director, and a menswear designer of a custom menswear brand feels a bit intimidating and can shut conversation down, giving strangers the completely wrong impression.

Finding the right words to talk about J.Hilburn is, in fact, more of a conversation than a title or category description, which tends to minimize all that we can offer for our clients. Talking about custom-made menswear is going to happen to you in most social situations for sure, but I often immediately add something like: …“direct to the client, making it much more affordable than custom has ever been” or something like that as I feel that there are a lot of preconceived ideas that custom-made menswear and that it may only be for elite, high spending customers having their clothes handmade by bespoke tailors or something to that effect. We certainly emanate that feeling of luxury and offer a very personal approach to our clients, but as the conversation flows, I will find myself discussing the process and our manufacturing of one piece at a time as part of the tech side of what we offer. It is all very interesting and based on the foundation of our business model, unique within the industry, but ultimately, what I hope our clients, established, lapsed, or new, connect to the clothes themselves. Fitting perfectly, built for them, and with the allure and character of a well-rooted menswear brand combining modernity and traditionalism in its DNA. The feeling of our clothes is probably more important than how we do, it and whilst we are very proud of the how, having beautiful clothing in your day to day that makes you feel like the very best version of yourself and is an accessible luxury, we should have in our lives.

This is why I love wearing J.Hilburn all of the time. Even when I am relaxing at home, in my private time, I love the feeling of wearing our custom-made interlock crew tee-shirt with either custom-made denim or our jogging pants. That indulgent feeling of custom-made clothes by J.Hilburn is something that all men should try in their lives as a remedy for many of life’s disappointments. Why be like everyone else when J.Hilburn gives you the opportunity to be unique to you? Dressing well isn’t hard; it’s just a choice, and like good food, music, and good living, I consider it part of a happy life.
