Graduating in Style

I missed my own graduation, having been offered a summer internship in Switzerland at the time. Some months later, my BA(Hons) degree certificate was unceremoniously shipped to me in Italy, where the true start of my early career had already begun.

Having studied fashion at Kingston University may not have set me up for dressing in the right thing at the time with my classmates, who were among some of London’s rising stars of fashion, and we may not have exactly adhered to the dress code. I did eventually, many years later, attend graduation at Kingston, but as an honoree of a Doctor of Arts degree that my University bestowed upon me: a truly humbling experience. I did dress to code on this occasion, only to find my lovely, tailored suit was covered up by a rather heavy mohair robe and cap that made me look more like Henry VIII than a well-dressed alum.

I think of the many graduations taking place and the important moment it is in the academic year, for many marking the end of a long path of education and setting off into the world and their careers. We can all relate to the many graduates entering the workplace today, in an environment that can be hostile and difficult to navigate. My anecdote would be the gift of Custom. What better way to graduate than with the confidence that comes from a perfectly fitting suit — likely their first — as they step into the future and all that lies ahead?

At J.Hilburn, we have many options that literally fit perfectly for this need, with options for every budget, in fact, designed to enable him the experience of custom with a small upgrade from off-the-rack prices. Custom-made clothing can appeal to many graduates, particularly those in the sports field, who may struggle to find clothes that fit well during everyday shopping experiences. Here too, our expertise can build an outfit that gives comfort and confidence on a day that will be remembered for the rest of their lives.

With fabric from refined wools with natural stretch to exclusive Italian cloths, linens, and tech fabrics, our current offering includes a suit and/or sportscoat for every graduate this year. This also applies to our Custom-made shirts and accessories, offering the full experience of an outfit that will make him feel the very best version of himself on this important occasion in his life.

With the added experience of personalization, whether it be monogramming initials, special dates, team colors, trims and buttons, we have a vast catalogue of unique touches that can part of the memorable experience, letting the graduate not only select from these but also learn about men’s tailoring and fashion along the journey of building their very first suit or sportscoat. I really can’t think of a better way for any young grad to feel on this very important day, and perhaps set him up with Custom-made clothing for the rest of his career.
