The latest additions to our collection complete the Fall and Winter 2021 lineup as we move into the last few months of the year. Winter will undoubtedly arrive soon, and with it those bitterly cold days that our clothing needs to protect us against. Style is often abandoned in favor of the need for warmth, with guys wrapping themselves up in anything to fight against the cold. I remember seeing guys on their morning commute, suffering on the streets of New York dressed like an army of abominable snowmen.
With the introduction of Winter 2021 product to the collection, we have plenty of newness that specifically speaks to thermal needs, with fabrications and styling options that ensure the cozy warmth you want without sacrificing the custom-made style that J.Hilburn offers all year round.
Our wool fleece was introduced this fall in the hybrid blazer. With the winter launch, this fabrication is now available in knits that also include new styling options. This wool fleece fabric is full of simple, straightforward technology, using a fine wool that’s woven to trap air. The result is a lightweight, breathable layer that wears similarly to a knit sweater, but with extraordinary thermal properties that make it surprisingly helpful for those cold days ahead. This type of “felted” or “boiled wool” technology is something that alpine cultures from Italy, Austria and Switzerland have been using for centuries in local traditional costume.
At J.Hilburn, we’ve brought the warmth of felted wool into the 21st century with stylish zip closures and tech trim options that make it perfect for layering, or what I call “third piece” choices when outfitting. When I speak of a third piece, I’m referring to a garment that you can lay over tops and bottoms— a third item that completes an outfit. It could be a sportcoat, an outerwear piece, or in this case, a hybrid between knit and outerwear that offers practical solutions for guys with an on-the-go lifestyle. When you’re moving between indoors and outdoors throughout the day, or perhaps in and out of cars, this type of layering piece is key for staying comfortable in different environments over the course of the day.
Down needs no introduction, as the fashion trend in down outerwear has been with us for some time. I’m thinking of ski-wear brands that have expanded their offering for “off-piste” wear, so to speak, bringing the practicality of lightweight tech outerwear to the city streets for winter. The ultra-light quality of natural down offers incredible thermal protection, which makes it a modern favorite of guys looking to stay warm with effortless style.
With the introduction of custom-made down outerwear, we are able to offer pocket and front closure options, plus an optional hood, all with the objective of keeping it pretty simple to build a stylish outerwear piece. A roomy fit is what most guys prefer for a down outerwear piece, knowing that it will be worn over layers or a sportcoat, so take this into account and make sure to discuss your preferred fit with your Stylist.
