Our Summer updates are live as of March 22, with new custom-made styles that build upon our successful Spring collection. I never approach each season as a stand-alone collection—instead I design them to build, season upon season, into an ever-evolving wardrobe that brings you along on the J.Hilburn style journey.
The most impacted categories for Summer 2022 are certainly shirts and polos, with newness in both prints and solids. The selection of fabrics focuses on Ratti prints in the nylon-elastane blend that we have run successfully for the last few seasons, sourced from this historic mill not far from the banks of Lake Como. This particular quality works brilliantly on and off the golf course, and is a perfect example of the continuing trend of tech fabrics worn as integral elements of the modern man’s everyday wardrobe.
I selected the new prints thinking of easy, wearable, colorful designs, but I also selected a few with decidedly bolder character. A lot of guys look for more stand-out styles like these year round, so we are prepared to cater to every man’s needs and preferences for summer polos.
Another exclusive update we’re offering this season is the Client-favorite Canclini quality in new horizontal stripes and solid colors, which make exceptional polos for summer. These fabrics are also available as contrast trim on Canclini selections, which can give a truly unique look to polos this season—another excellent addition to your J.Hilburn wardrobe.
Lastly, in knits, we are pleased to introduce an entirely new lightweight knit quality, courtesy of our relationship with a mill that specializes in athletic and golf tech fabrics. The breathability and wicking characteristics of this poly stretch fabric quality are truly exceptional. It comes in exclusive stripes and prints from our bright summer palette, and we’re excited to know what you think.
Our summer cotton is back this season with brand-new colors for pants and shorts. This lightweight stretch cotton is a great casual option if you want a pop of color that reflects the summer mood and days of sunshine. I really love these new colors, especially in shorts and the new pull-on style we introduced last year.
Other shirt updates come from our friends at Somelos, the Portuguese mill that excels at youthful collections and fresh color each year. This season we have a new stretch seersucker in solids and patterns, and it makes the perfect summer shirt. We also have poplins and extra fine twills, all with the unmistakeable fresh summer color that Somelos is known for.
In suiting, you may notice some late arrivals popping up in the Key Looks. I wanted to draw special attention to the new jacquards from VBC—Vitale Barberis Canonico—that make very stylish sportcoats and summer dinner jackets for those special summer occasions and celebrations.
Added to these two fabulous patterns, we are also launching some bright colors in solid linen from our Irish partner Baird McNutt. These fun colors are also available in formal styles for a touch of Hollywood movie star style. We managed to get some great images of these new linens, photographed in a paneled dining room on location at the Biltmore in Coral Gables. These few shots capture so well the suave stylishness that inspired me this season, and I found myself wanting to be invited to the imaginary party we created on the set.
