This week we launched our J.Hilburn Winter 2022 Collection. We added on a small winter capsule to our Fall 2022 Collection for newness across multiple categories. This winter selection adds slightly warmer fabrics to help our Clients look great and feel warm as the colder weather begins to set in.
With a winter season ahead of us, it’s not easy to face the transition from fall. The fresh, crisp breezes of September can suddenly turn into the biting winds of October and November, marking the gateway of the holiday season and the new year ahead. I hope the introduction of some fresh items to our lineup helps our Clients forget about the cold as they fall in love with these warm pieces. I think they’re the perfect antidote to winter’s bitterness.
Flannel is a classic wool go-to for suiting this time of year. It’s warmer than the fabrics we offer during other times of the year, with a slightly “fuzzy” appearance and hand feel. I love flannel for both its added insulation against the cold, as well as its ability to blend colors and patterns for a softer appearance. Patterns on flannel are less defined and not as sharp as our year-round lightweight wools.
This year I went back to our friends at Vitale Barberis Canonico and selected a small houndstooth flannel in three colorways that capture a touch of color inspired by the British countryside. We offer these houndstooth flannels in custom-made sportcoats with the must-have windstopper option, and we’ve also made it possible for our Clients to create custom-made shirt jackets in these cozy wools. Another notable fabric is a rather lovely “tweed effect” flannel in a blue which is on the brighter side, for a combination of tradition and modernity that I think our Clients will respond to well.
I have also added three irresistible Loro Piana sportcoats that are masterfully designed with multicolor subtlety by this first-class mill, giving the Client something really special for his upcoming social events. The first two are of a luxurious blend of wool, silk and cashmere that Loro Piana call “Silk Air,” which I believe speaks for itself. Speaking of social and special occasions, our velvet is back from the British mill of Brisbane Moss for tuxedo or sportcoat events. These velvets are available in classic black, burgundy and navy. The navy looks especially spectacular when combined with our new navy trim package—a modern choice with a nod towards exclusivity. I selected a quality that is slightly softer and drapes better on the body, thanks to a small percentage of modal, a fiber of the viscose family, incorporated into the blend.
Our tailored outerwear program relaunches for Winter 2022 with a Loro Piana wool Zealander quality added to our standard Colombo cashmere selection. This delicious wool has a woven texture that gives a slight salt-and-pepper appearance to the surface in tonal grey and regal blue colorways.
Another notable update is the return of our Reda wool shirting in plaids and solids, which have become a tradition of their own this time of year, thanks to their warm look, mélange yarns and sophisticated colors. To help mark the winter launch and ramp-up toward the holidays, I’ve also added some festive plaids from Somelos in a refined twill cotton. These plaids have a bolder character and fresh colorations that will make great holiday gifting fare. Add these new shirts to a new cashmere zip neck sweater in a fresh color with contrast trim, and you will have a gift that any man would be thrilled to receive—including me!
