Pink in menswear is not something new; in fact, it has been around since the 16th century when the color was associated with power and wealth due to the rarity of the cochineal dye from Mexico. It is only recently that retail has associated it with baby wear and become a color representing more feminine attire. The resurgence of pink in menswear is growing each season as a bold statement or a contrast color with a distinct fun character making it the perfect accent for Spring and Summer.
Wearing pink will be new for a lot of guys but opting for a new accent to brighten up an outfit is pretty simple to do without stepping out of most guys’ comfort zone. Following the rule of subtlety, wearing pink back to neutrals is one of my preferred combinations, particularly good with khaki shades, our chalk, and the grey tones. Wearing as a shirt or knit to layer under a sportscoat is a great way to add that spring accent color, and this combo can be seen in a number of looks in the new collection.
To my eye, pink looks good with paler tones of neutral, grey, or white, but I do love it as an accent worn under navy, with a subtle reference to a more preppy style. Pink and navy can look great in spring, but to be honest, a navy blazer looks great with anything in my book.
We also introduced in the Spring Collection some sportcoat fabrics with pink accents or tonal patterns back to neutral, and for those wanting to step out, you can go full suit. The full suit in pink or patterns with pink, is for those if you thinking of Derby events, Easter parades, or for grooms looking for something individual for that special day.
The beauty of custom, of course, is that you can make big or small statements with color and use pink as an accent in our wide range of options in all categories. Pink buttons on a white shirt or picking up the pink accent in a check is a delightful way to try color for those of you who may be more shy of stepping out. Monogramming and even using contrast trim fabric in pink are other ways to propose accents, but my favorite new trim option is the grosgrain trim down the placket of a shirt. With gentlemen wearing less neckwear than ever, having some sort of detail interest in shirts becomes essential. The contrast grosgrain offers a stylish placket that peaks out when the neck is worn open, adding something pretty special without being too showy.
