Fall Sweeps In

September has begun, and this month, fall sweeps down upon us unavoidably, with reminders at our local shopping markets and coffee shops, with pots of Mums, pumpkin spice, and Halloween décor eagerly displayed in the premium pick-up spots.

Over the last holiday weekend, I traveled to my home here in Connecticut, the place that inspired this season’s collection. I am always influenced by the New England fall, but the new collection didn’t take from the famous fall colors of the northeast but rather the bare woods of winter and the frosted shades of the coldest part of the year, much later than this early fall. As I look out the windows, I am rather shocked to see the beginning of the turning of the foliage and outside to feel the chill air in the evenings and the last Limelight hydrangeas beginning to fade into that subtle characteristic vintage rose. We have a maple near the house that has always turned early, but this year, the leaves are already falling on the roof, which, for the country boy in me, warns me that we may be in for quite a bitter winter ahead.

With the return of the cool evenings and fresh mornings, the sense of seasonal change is very prominent, and I find myself layering up and thinking of warmer pieces that I can cozy up in. Our new knits are the perfect go-to this time of year with warm and soft hand feels designed for layers and better-than-a-sweater styling. I have ordered a few zip thru’s both in the Mouliné knit and the new scuba, which will work well at home for my Zoom meetings and for some appointments in the city next week, too. The new Tech Textured knit is the perfect layer under heavier overshirts, such as a crew or Henley. Even though this fabric has limited styling options available, the value is outstanding, which makes it the perfect outfit layer, especially for our overshirts that continue to trend in menswear as an early fall style, both casual and refined in our new fabrics this season.

At the moment, the Tech Stretch Twill, which continues over from last season, is my new favorite stretch pant that perfectly transitions into early fall, looking smart at all times without sacrificing the comfort of long car journeys or flights. Later in the season, I know I will love the new pin cord, which our clients are already favoriting even this early in the season. I know I will love to wear these pants back to vest styles perhaps layered under a sportscoat from one of our Italian mills. I am spoiled for outerwear, too, starting with Hybrid Blazers and quilted vests in the new Walnut color. But the new vegan leather bomber really captures the new fall mood, with its traditional styling updated in a modern vegan leather that is just as soft as Nappa. I know it will perform incredibly well if I get caught in a rain shower, something I am planning on as I travel to England (the old one) next week.
