Fall Color Surprise

The new fall color palette is rich and full of seasonal tones that evoke the arrival of fall: the spices, the berries, the foliage and the appealing warm tones that welcome us into the autumnal months. It’s easy to love these colors, and one of the pleasures I had in working with the new palette was collaborating with our mills to find interesting shirting patterns and colors that speak to current menswear needs.

I wanted options that would delight and surprise you with a new accent color found in an overcheck or a secondary tone popping in a micro print. I always love to find this type of detail. I hope that as you explore our fall shirting, you’ll can see how each pattern has been thoughtfully selected to give you plenty of layering choices.

Blue and Olive Plaid works effortlessly with Green Melange Interlock Jersey, but also coordinates surprisingly well with Storm Blue or Olive Wool

With the new fall season comes the return of wonderful plaids and checks inspired by the casual, outdoorsy—and quintessentially American—Adirondack style. For this season we added to our fall mill selection with Soktas from Turkey and Somelos from Portugal. These mills made an appearance earlier this year in the spring collection, but they both brought fresh new color ways to our shirting range for their J.Hilburn fall debut. We continue to partner with Thomas Mason and Albini each season, plus of course Ratti and Canclini for prints. With fabrics from these exceptional mills, we are currently able to offer a thoroughly wide range of custom-made shirts for most budgets and tastes.

Red and Burgundy work in more ways than one and are among some of the most wearable new colors for guys. In the images above, I love the way the knits pick up on the palette and can layer effortlessly with different shirting options—shown with two Albini prints here—whether your Client opts for a knit in a classic navy or grey, or goes with something striking like the midweight Red Currant wool from Reda or the new Burgundy Interlock.

It’s fun to discover how the shirt colors can work back to many of the knits. The knit plus shirt formula is a classic, easy way to wear plaids and other prints in endless combinations with solid color knits. I hope that some of styling ideas I’ve shared here will help you to think outside of the box with the new fall palette. Not everything has to be be navy or grey, although focusing on navy and grey for foundational pieces is never a bad thing—am I right?

Blues and Greys are always good go-tos
